As we began our own study in depth, we were elated to find that there was in years past and is today a small group of authors studying the question of meaning and reporting their findings in published works. Driven by a desire to understand these communications on the rocks, we undertook a literature search of the rock art writings of archaeologists, anthropologists, researchers, Native American informants, and other writersall published over the last 125 years.
